“One of my resources on Armstrong Station just reported in, sir,” the intelligence section chief informed Lin Dai, China’s head of State Security. The section chief headed China’s State Security space activities division.

“And what did he report?”

“The Americans stumbled upon a Russian pirate ship on a raid against the current tanker convoy,” the man responded.

Russia had kept their Chinese benefactors up to date on their activities out in the asteroid belt. After all, it was the reason China was supporting them.

“It was only a matter of time,” Lin Dai said. “Eventually, they were going to be discovered. I will let our friends know about it. Any additional information?”

“No, Excellency. Only that they had captured a pirate in the act and that it was one of the Russian ‘mining’ ships they had launched.”

“Press for more information, but don’t risk the asset,” Lin Dai said. “Thank you for the information.”

The section chief recognized the dismissal and promptly left the office. As he was leaving, China’s Security Chief picked up a phone.

“Get me Natalia Markow in Moscow.”
